"No brains for you, wormhead" {BOOM}

With confidence, the party marched up to the outpost marking the start of the area lost to the foces of undead. The guards, although a trifle twitchy, were more than happy to let the adventurers pass through the stone door and crushing ceiling trap to get to the dark cavern beyond.

The wizard in advance gained the lie of the land with a magical eye that he sent into the cavern. After a few minutes, he was able to describe the layout of the cavern, including some chimneys in the roof that lead to further cave systems. The lower level of the cave before them contain a large pit seeting with skeletons and zombies; around the top of the pit prowled a number of ghoulish creatures.

With this information, the adventurers started on down the side of the cave to get to the ramp and access to the lower floor. Spells rained down from the ceiling as they did, including fireball, magic missile (against the wizard), silence (again againts the wizard) and unholy blight. The wizard was keen-eyes enough to send a fireball at the rough location where the original flaming ball had come from in the hope of catching the enemy in it's blast. It's success was unknown although burning ropes and other material could be seen falling from the roof.

As the party progressed, ghouls and ghasts try to waylay them, only to be blown apart by the paladin's channeling of Heironeous' divine power. The gnome interfered to try and control undead, much to the paladin's obvious disgust. Soon, though, the undead learnt to run away from the light of the party and the paladin's holy might.

Reaching the pit, the adventurers made short work of one of the rope ladders that had been rolled down to allow undead to climb out of the pit. The contents of the pit was decimated with a fireball which must have destroyed maybe a hundred of the animated creatures. The gnome air-walked over the pit - despite an attemnpt to dispel such magic - and commanded a handful of the undead below his feet to fight those climbing the remaining rope ladder.

It seemed as if all the undead in the cavern would soon be just piles of dust...
